Nosebleed - A Brief History

NOSEBLEED MAGAZINE started in the year of our lord 1990 as a xeroxed devotion to all matters of discontent. Inspired by punk fanzines and underground comics, NOSEBLEED combined elements of both to further the cause of tippex-punk journalism and seek some humourous relief out of this often pigheaded and stultifying misinformed seedy underworld of ours.

Over the years, the roster of interviewed bands has included The Cramps, Alice Donut, Therapy, Sonic Youth, Burning Love Jumpsuit, Mo7's, Ogre, Snuff, Skint, Anhrefn, Nomeansno, Striknien DC, The Specials, Credit to the Nation, The Flying Kidney, Doc Corbin Dart, Jam Jar Jail, The Grown-ups, Millions Of Dead Cops, Cuinas, Quicksand, Paranoid Visions, Blaggers ITA, Rumble, The Young Gods, Stomach, Gout, Bad Manners, Puget Sound, The Steam Pig, The Dropkick Murphys, Sir Killalot, Chumbawamba, Tension, Radical Dance Faction, The Vandals, Black Belt Jones, Wat Tyler, US Bombs, Runnin Riot, Bambi, The Dickies, Blood or Whiskey and many others......

Together with a handful of skewed-vision articles, often frowned-upon artwork, a few thousand shoddy record reviews and other unspeakable things, NOSEBLEED carved a path for itself which ridiculously outlived it's contemporaries.

When I put the first issue together between September and December 1990, the internet was strictly military technology and the world wide web as it is today did not exist. The NOSEBLEED print edition took an unplanned hiatus after issue 22 and the purpose of this website is to continue to despatch seedy information in the hard copy's absence (- NOTE - This is not the end of the line for the magazine... I've simply been devoting my time to other projects).

It has also been a longterm intention to archive the information gathered over the years in an accessible manner. The initial idea was to do a bumper printed edition... a kind of "best of" publication, but as time went by, this seemed a lot less logical and financially plausable than a website. With this in mind, I will be slowly digitising old interviews (most of which were typed in sheets and cut'n'pasted together). For now, there's a small archive of past interviews and articles (some published in NOSEBLEED, others written as contributions for other zines).

Some of you will already be aware of the accompanying site www.praxisireland.com/boz which is a gallery of some of the BOZ cartoon & illustration work from over the years. Bits and pieces appeared in NOSEBLEED and various similar lowly epistles, others in more mainstream publications. The rest is a showcase of CD covers, flyers, visual disinformation and cultural terrorism.

NOSEBLEED plans to resume it's printed status late 2003, but material which is likely to date quickly... reviews etc.. will be published on the website, allowing for more weirdness in the xeroxed rag.
